Project Summary
The Challenge
When Elisha and Nick noticed their shingles deteriorating and winter ice buildup on the back of their house, they knew it was time for a roof replacement.
The homeowners faced multiple issues that needed attention.
Their aging shingles had reached the end of their lifespan, and severe winter ice buildup on the back portion of the house created concerns about potential damage.
They’d already met with two other contractors but felt uncomfortable moving forward. They needed a roofing partner who could address both the immediate roof replacement needs and the underlying ventilation problems contributing to ice dams. That’s where Roofs by Bryan came in.

Our Solution
We scheduled an additional site visit with Nick and Elisha, bringing along our partner Rob from Guardian Seamless Gutters to confirm all the details for the soffit, fascia, and gutter work.
Together, we developed a plan that would not only provide a beautiful, durable new roof but also improve ventilation to combat winter ice dams.
Our solution included replacing existing soffits with ventilated pieces to create proper airflow from the soffits through the ridge vent. Coupled with the heat cables installed on sections of the roof where snow raking wouldn’t be practical, giving Nick and Elisha an extra line of defense against ice buildup.
This project wasn’t just about replacing a roof—it was about solving the ice dam problem and giving this Orchard Park home the protection it deserved.
Materials Used
- GAF HDZ Shingles in Charcoal for their durability and attractive appearance
- 5″ residential .032 gauge seamless gutters paired with Alu-rex gutter guards
- Heat tape for ice prevention
- Vented and solid vinyl soffits
Process
Elisha & Nick first contacted our team on August 12. Bryan was able to meet with them and give them an estimate on September 4. After reviewing our proposal, Elisha & Nick decided to get on our production list on September 20. Since this was a larger project, the work was spread out over a couple of days, starting on October 30 and wrapping up on November 5.
Highlights

Results & Benefits
The transformation exceeded expectations. Nick and Elisha now have a stunning new roof that stands up to Western New York winters.
The improved ventilation system helps prevent the ice dam issues they experienced before, while the heat cables provide additional protection in problem areas.
The new gutter system with Alu-rex guards means less maintenance and better water management.
But most importantly, the homeowners felt confident and informed throughout the process, knowing exactly what solutions we were implementing and why.

Special Features
This project required a thoughtful approach to both aesthetics and function. The ventilated soffit system created proper airflow that will help regulate attic temperatures and reduce the likelihood of ice dam formation. The heat cables provide added targeted protection needed to keep areas where snow and ice tend to accumulate safe from excessive buildup. The Alu-rex gutter guards were the cherry on top, reducing the time Nick and Elisha would need to spend cleaning gutters in the future.
Every element worked together to create a roofing system that looks great and provides Nick and Elisha with the peace of mind they deserve.
